Stages of Root Canal Treatment

1️⃣ Initial Diagnosis & RadiographyThe first step involves taking a dental X-ray to assess the exact shape and length of the affected tooth’s root canals. This provides the endodontist with essential diagnostic information.

2️⃣ Anaesthesia & IsolationAfter local anaesthesia, the tooth is isolated using a rubber dam—a thin latex membrane that prevents bacteria in saliva from contaminating the inner tooth structure.

3️⃣ Access & CleaningA small opening is made through the tooth’s crown to access the pulp chamber. The endodontist precisely navigates the root canal system, removing infected or necrotic tissue while thoroughly disinfecting the area.

4️⃣ Shaping & FillingOnce cleaned, the root canal is shaped and filled with gutta-percha—a biocompatible material that restores the tooth’s anatomy and function.
