Types of Dental Implants - Miko Dental
High-Quality and Rapid Dental Implants
At Miko Dental, we use top-tier dental implants (Adin, Paltop, Bredent, Zimmer, Straumann) and the most advanced equipment featuring cutting-edge technology (computerised prosthetics – digital intraoral scanning).
All radiological examinations are conducted in-house using the latest equipment, ensuring minimal radiation exposure. Our dental restorations on implants are digitally imprinted using a 3D intraoral scanner, enhancing precision and eliminating the discomfort associated with traditional impression techniques.
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant serves as an artificial tooth root designed to replace a missing tooth within the dental arch. Manufactured from 100% biocompatible titanium, the implant is essentially a titanium screw inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone using specialised techniques. This provides a stable foundation for dental crowns, bridges, or prostheses, restoring both functionality and aesthetics immediately after placement.
How Long Does a Dental Implant Treatment Take?
Implant therapy typically involves multiple stages over a period of 3 to 9 months. After this period, the implant is fitted with a healing abutment and a temporary crown to shape the gum tissue and facilitate the final prosthetic restoration.
In certain cases, an implant can be placed immediately following the extraction of a compromised tooth. This technique shortens the treatment duration and helps preserve the surrounding bone. In the same session, patients may also receive a provisional crown—a process known as immediate loading. These advanced techniques in implantology are successfully utilised worldwide.
Some patients who underwent tooth extractions long ago may have reduced bone quantity and quality. Historically, these cases were contraindicated for dental implants. However, modern techniques now allow implants to be placed even in such cases, provided the patient first undergoes bone augmentation procedures, such as bone grafting or sinus lift surgery. In cases of severe maxillary bone resorption, short implants (4-6 mm in length, 6-8 mm in width) may be used successfully. A CBCT (Cone Beam CT) scan performed in our radiology department will determine the most suitable implant type for each patient.
Our clinic employs Piezosurgery, a state-of-the-art surgical device that enhances procedural safety for both the clinician and the patient. This technology minimises trauma and significantly improves post-operative comfort compared to conventional implantology techniques. Piezosurgery is particularly beneficial in sinus lift procedures (without damaging the sinus membrane), implant placement in narrow maxillary ridges (ridge splitting), bone augmentation, and minimally invasive extractions.
What is the Success Rate of Dental Implants?
With over 10,000 implants successfully placed by our expert medical team, we record a success rate of 98-100%. The success of an implant depends on several factors, including the patient’s overall health (implants are contraindicated in severe hepatic, metabolic, cardiac, or renal conditions), surgical technique, bone quality and quantity, and, most importantly, oral hygiene. When properly maintained, dental implants can last a lifetime.
Regular check-ups are essential, as dental implants boast the highest success rate among all dental procedures.
Is There a Risk of Implant Failure?
While dental implants do not decay, poor oral hygiene can lead to peri-implantitis, an infection of the tissues surrounding the implant, potentially causing implant failure. The risk of peri-implantitis is higher in smokers and individuals with inadequate oral hygiene. Implant loss can also occur due to premature prosthetic loading or bone deterioration over time.
Advantages of Dental Implants
✅ Restores proper chewing and speech function
✅ Enhances facial aesthetics and smile appearance
✅ Replaces a missing tooth with a single dental crown instead of a traditional three-unit bridge
✅ Preserves adjacent natural teeth
✅ Provides fixed prosthetic solutions for denture wearers
✅ Implant-supported restorations are indistinguishable from natural teeth
✅ Prevents gum recession and bone resorption✅ Ensures long-term durability, often offering a permanent solution
